Desbarrancada

Desbarrancada is an Argentine psychological drama set in 1977, during the height of the country’s military dictatorship. The film follows Gina, an upper-class woman trapped in a suffocating marriage and a society ruled by power, fear, and silence.

A former equestrian athlete, Gina struggles with infertility while living under the shadow of her husband Carlos, a wealthy businessman with strong ties to the military regime. Emotionally isolated and desperate for meaning, she becomes involved in a forbidden affair with a young stable hand at her riding club — a relationship that offers brief freedom but carries dangerous consequences.

When Gina’s close friend is suddenly abducted and disappears at the hands of the regime, she turns to a military captain connected to her husband for help. Instead of protection, Gina is drawn deeper into a web of corruption, manipulation, and violence, forcing her to confront the true cost of complicity.

Through an intimate and tense narrative, Desbarrancada explores themes of female oppression, desire, political terror, and moral awakening, portraying a woman’s struggle to reclaim agency in a world built on fear and control.
